In this 3-day workshop you will explore the ancient medium of encaustic painting. Using both traditional and non-traditional approaches and lots of hands-on exploration you will find encaustic to be extremely versatile-offering unlimited possibilities to art-making. With Larry’s guidance you will work with hot wax, dry pigments and a variety of organic materials, such as natural ceramic clay and mud washes as textural backgrounds. You will also experiment with techniques on paper and panels including the use of stamping, tissue transfer, photocopy transfer as well as fabric and paper collage.

Larry Calkins is a full time mixed media artist living and working in the greater Seattle area. His art is a combination of painting, photography, computer drawings, fabric, metal sculpting and woodwork and he has been featured in solo shows in Seattle (G. Gibson Gallery), New York, Philadelphia and Provincetown.  Larry, a dedicated instructor, has been an Artist in residence at the Museum of Glass in Tacoma and currently teaches at the Pratt Fine Art Center in Seattle.  For more information about Larry and his work, visit his website:
