In this unique 2-part workshop format, master pastelist Richard McKinley will teach you the techniques and fundamentals necessary to structure a successful Plein Air painting and how to determine the necessary finishing touches that make a painting work.  In Part 1-Basics and Fundamentals you will learn how to produce a concise field sketch, a successful under-painting and improve your ability to accurately see value relationships and color harmonies when painting on location. During the 3 days of independent study you will have an opportunity to re-visit the painting sites and practice.  Richard will also be in the field mentoring and painting.  In Part 2-Resolve / Field and Studio you will learn how to resolve a field sketch into a finished painting on location and how to re-interrupt a painting in the studio.  Richard McKinley is a dedicated instructor. He has a wealth of information to share, is tireless in this pursuit and his intensity, focus and energy are legendary.

Richard McKinley has been a professional working artist for 35 years and has over 30 years of teaching experience.  He is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America and Northwest Pastel Society; Signature Distinguished Pastelist with the Pastel Society of the West Coast; Signature Master Pastelist of the Pastel Society of Oregon and a member of the Oil Painters of America.  His work is represented in several national galleries and he is a frequent contributing editor for the Pastel Journal.
