DEBORAH MERSKY
Relief Printing from Clay Slabs

May 2-3-4
All Levels

$275 + $30 Materials Fee

The workshop will cover the basic technique of using leather hard ceramic clay as a surface to print from.  Clay printing, although similar in nature to lino-cut and wood-cut, offers unique results: a textured surface, unusual flexibility, and the opportunity for oversize, non-press printing. After an introductory collaborative project, students will choose a theme to work with and then create pieces using several different approaches to their chosen theme.  Demonstrations will include combining clay printing with collage and water media and reduction printing using a clay slab.

All levels are welcome.

Deborah Mersky has developed and refined her mono-printing technique over the last 20 years.  In addition to works on paper she has worked in the field of Public Art and has completed projects in Seattle, Portland, San Jose, Minneapolis, and Austin, TX. Her work has been featured in solo exhibitions at the Grover–Thurston Gallery in Seattle.
