Barbara Nickerson will teach a 3 day ‘Sumi Tune-up’ workshop on June 27-28-29. This workshop is open to all former students of Barbara’s and any new students who would like assistance in moving to the next level in the Art of Sumi. Barbara is very flexible and will allow the class to determine it’s own needs over the course of the 3 days. This is a great opportunity toward developing your personal approach to Sumi painting.
Barbara will spend at least 15 minutes with each student during the course of the workshops in a private consultation. In order for Barbara to properly access your work, please bring 2 pieces of finished artwork. A drawing will determine the order of personal consultation.
Day One:
You will begin by viewing and discussing all student artwork brought in for consultation. This will allow Barbara the opportunity to access the status of the class and determine how and what to teach. A demo and assignment will follow. After the lunch break there will be another demo and independent painting. Display of the day’s work and general critique will end the day.
Day Two:
Working from a live model. Demo’s both morning and afternoon. Barbara will continue with student consultations and finish the day with display and critique.
Day Three:
Conversation about art in general: the business of art, uses of art, sharing art will be covered. Barbara will demo morning and afternoon in whatever theme requested. Barbara will finish any private consultations.
Materials:
Sumi ink, brushes, spray bottle, felt, paper towels, mat knife, metal ruler, lots of Sumi paper of your choice, 2 ply museum board for mounting. Barbara will provide mixed YES paste for mounting
Barbara Nickerson received her BFA from the Art Institute of Chicago. She is a signature member of the Northwest Watercolor Society, Women Painters of Washington and the Puget Sound Sumi Artists. Barbara is in the ‘Encyclopedia of Sumi-E’, and ‘Who’s Who in the International Sumi-E Artists’. She has exhibited throughout the US and in Japan, Germany and France.
